This image is fresh from the oven – captured yesterday! It’s a bit of a repeat, as I posted an image from this very spot in July, but the lighting on the mountain and fresh dusting of snow this week made for lovely early fall scene.  This version is also a celebration of the magic of an iPhone. If you’ve been around long enough, you remember the tiny, grainy images from flip phones the wireless carriers actually charged you to download from the device! Digital cameras were just coming into the mainstream at the time, and few imagined that a lowly phone could ever produce comparable images.

While phones have yet to level the playing field with digital SLR cameras, they already exceed them in some capabilities. That’s truly amazing, but for me, so long as I continue to thrill by simply looking into the viewfinder of a “real” camera and fully immersing myself in the scene, phones will continue to simply be a very handy complement to the real thing.

Image Description: An iPhone view of Mount Hood from Inspiration Point, on Mount Hood’s north side along the historic Cloud Cap Road. Fresh snow dusts the highest reaches of the mountain, and fall colors are beginning to emerge along the Eliot Branch of the Hood River, flowing deep in a rugged canyon, below. Green boughs of Douglas fir and Mountain hemlock frame the scene.
